In an effort to succeed at HSF #2, I started my pants the other day. My Smooth Sailing Trousers are now cut out and have the darts all sewn. I have also sewn in some slash pockets (my own addition). I am using a gray wool that has a small sort of rectangular check pattern woven in. It's nice and smooth and has a lovely drape. I really like the top-stitched pleat on this pattern. While the original pattern has the knife pleat facing the CF, I thought that the excess fabric, when combined with my pockets, would be too bulky so I have the pleat facing the sides. However, the pockets are still wide enough that the fabric all overlaps anyways, so I totally could have kept the pleats facing the other way. Silly! Oh well, it still looks good and should be fine in terms of bulkiness. Up next is finishing edges and putting together the seams. Then I'll get to try them on for fit. It should be alright, since I've used this pattern before for shorts, but every fabric acts differently and this wool has a tiny bit of stretch, so who knows? Hopefully, I can keep getting little bits done every day or two.
