Rain + Cold = Me slipping on the sidewalk and hurting my bum

Boo! So now my lower back/hip hurts. And it's a real kicker because I had JUST gotten to the very, very end of the sidewalk. It was the last step before entering the car. And then Whoops! There i went. School should just be closed. Nothing closes this town though. Not -50 degree Celsius weather, not major snowstorms, and not freezing rain. (In my entire, almost 23 years of living here, I can only remember one occasion when things were really shut down. And it was a HUGE snowstorm where the drifts were higher than six foot tall fences. And even then people were still out driving and driving snowmobiles. My brother and I went skiing in the back yard.) A few schools outside the city are closed, the school buses aren't running, and the city transit has a 20 min. delay notice, but schools are still open and people are still expected to go to work. Aren't we hardcore?

I got my book in the mail today! :) It's Corsets: Historical Patterns and Techniques by Jill Salen. It's a really great book. Kind of like a cross between Janet Arnold and Corsets and Crinolines. The patterns in the book are a decent size, not all tiny, and on a grid, so it looks like they'll be easier to scale up. My only caveat is that there isn't much info on construction and not enough pictures of the beautiful corsets. Although I don't think any books of that sort can ever have enough pictures. Maybe if they one day send interactive models with the books. ;p There are two corsets that are considered "projects" and the construction of those ones are much more detailed, so that's neat. The corsets span 1750-1920, although it's a little spotty for mid-1800s. There are quite a few for the 1790s, which I think is really neat because you get to see the transition, and for 1885-1910. I definitely recommend this one.
