Loooong Overdue

While completing
jenthompson's CoCo "left behind" mission, I realized I still hadn't blogged about this costume. And I made it almost TWO YEARS ago! It is definitely my favourite Halloween costume I have ever made. I put a fair bit of work into the construction and I think it turned out really well. It's a Disney Snow White costume. The only major changes I made were to shorten the skirt and add pockets.

The bodice is boned on all the seams. I used my trusty 1960 dress bodice pattern as a base, but changed it to princess seams and added some small puffed sleeves. It's piped CF with lame covered yarn. The edges are finished with single fold bias tape. The skirt is a half circle (technically two quarter circles so that there would be seams to add slash pockets) sewn to 1/2 twill tape which I then whipped into the waistline of the assembled bodice before inserting the zipper. In the skirt I added a facing and slashed the opening to add the zipper.

The sleeves are a layer of red crepe with a blue satin layer over them. The teardrops are cut outs in the blue satin that I zigzagged around. They're bound with gold lame at the hems. I got lazy at the armscye and just left the edges raw there.

I wore this costume with a bunch of other friends all in Disney themed costumes (including Belle, Cinderella, Esmeralda, Pocahontas, Little Mermaid/Ariel, Mulan, Robin Hood, Aladdin, Carpet, Hercules). It was awesome. Some of us went to the local ComicCon a couple days later and we got lots of compliments. The little girls liked the princesses (me and another friend dressed as the Little Mermaid), but the biggest hit was my boyfriend who dressed up as the fox version of Robin Hood. I made his costume too, which involved orange suede pants that had a tail attached.
