Mitts!

Okay, so I'm on a kick for 18th century fingerless mitts right now. There just aren't enough examples for me to see. I have some nice white linen that I think might become some mitts. Maybe with some silk embroidery, if I can get my hands on silk thread. Of course, this would be after I actually finish some of my other projects. ;p But in the meantime I'm having loads of fun researching and looking at images. I wish there were more pics of the kinds that I want to see. Like more embroidery, telling me what kinds of thread is used. (Metallic thread seems to be used on cotton mitts. Silk embroidery on silk or leather.) Or any examples of linen mitts. (Mostly I see leather, silk, knitted, and cotton. Unfortunately my knitting skills are practically nil. And my leather-working skills are completely nil.) This should be a fun project. One of those in-between types that are nice to have around and don't have a deadline and you can sit in front of the tv to do. Hmm... That's sort of what the eyelets on my stays should be. Self, be good. Do your current projects. Discipline!

Mitts are so pretty! I've been wanting a pair for myself as well. I've seen a pair of knitted linen mitts so I dont see why you couldnt use woven fabric instead.

Good call! I think the Kannik's Korner website recommends linen too for that pattern. You should definitely make a pair of mitts. They'd look so pretty with your Neopolitan.
