Deathly Hallows

Obviously I haven't been doing any sewing. Too busy reading and re-reading HP. Well my dad picked me up a copy last night whilst I was out with my friends. I got home around 2-ish and started reading... All the way until 6 am. (It just kept getting lighter and lighter outside, but I wasn't feeling tired.) Then I decided I should probably get some sleep. About 4 1/2 hours later, back at it again. I finished at 4:30-ish. Wow.
I just had to get that all out of my system. Nobody in my house has read the book yet and I was just bursting with it all. Whew!
Firstly I just want to say, FREEEEEEEED NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! Seriously, out of my top 4 favourite characters, 3 died in the series. 1. Fred, 2. Sirius, 3. Draco, 4. Remus. How incredibly sad is it that Teddy Lupin has to be an orphan?! I was pretty sure the whole time that Harry, Ron, and Hermione were all going to survive. But Fred was a huge surprise. Wah! :,( And poor Hedwig. Speaking of surprises though, Griphook must be a little shocked. He ran off with the sword and then Neville pulled it out of the hat again, so I guess Griphook is out of luck. Neville rocks.
This book was SUCH an emotional rollercoaster. Half the time I was reading it I was ready to cry. I wish there was something about Luna in the last chapter though. I would have liked to learned what happened to her. I always wanted her to hook up with Harry. Oh well, I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Maybe her and Neville (aka Prof. Longbottom) got married. I hope so because that'd be really cute.
I definitely had suspicions about Lily and Snape, but occasionally dismissed them as wishful thinking. Who doesn't love Snape now? It's impossible not to. What a romantic. (Did it remind anybody else of Count Olaf in A Series of Unfortunate Events: The End?) And I also guessed that Petunia had wanted to be a wizard. Of course, my guess was also sometimes that she might have been one and got expelled, but still, the gist of it is the same. (Ha! Tuney. Ha!) Dudley obviously also moves up into the good books.
Overall this book was pretty darned amazing. I think that JK Rowling's writing has really matured over the past ten years or so. The character development was fascinating to watch. They just kept getting deeper and deeper and more complex. And the way that she portrayed death I think was done really well. Not to mention the fact that the story itself was just exciting and action-packed and fun to read.

Date: 2007-07-22 04:47 am (UTC)I've seriousy been an emotional wreck today but I think this is my favorite book. So many answers and connections and I love that even with all of my crazy theorizing, JK Rowling still managed to surprise me.
Oh and I totally thought Percy was a goner when he stepped out of the portrait. Oh Fred!
