I pulled out some suitable fabric for the stays from the stash. A white twill and my favourite for corsets/stays/structural undergarments: pillow ticking. I also found some fabric for the mock-up, but not sure that I'll have enough. And I cut out the paper pattern. Hoping to get some sort of mock-up done tomorrow.

I have heard about using pillow ticking for corsets but I've never tried it! People have said it's papery-crisp like coutil which makes it suitable. What other corsets have you used it for?

I used it as one of the layers of my 1780s stays, along with cotton twill innermost layer and a lightweight pink linen for the top layer. I also used it for my Regency stays along with a layer of drill. It's also what I used to make my elliptical hoop and my lobster tail bustle. It's so tightly woven, but a plain weave, not twill weave. And it's WAY cheaper than coutil and I can find it locally. It's thinner than coutil too, somewhere between a lightweight twill and a poplin with that really crisp hand. I used pillow ticking on my last corset, too! It worked really well, I was really pleased with it, and I can get it at Wal-Mart, so I don't have to make an excursion into town to get it. XD

Cool! It's great to hear other people's experiences and to know that it works for them too. I love how much more convenient it is to acquire.

Good on you for making a corset. I've decided that corsets are not my bag unless I can get them professionally fit (ie during a work shop). Can't wait to see it.

Thanks! I really like corset-making, well the fitting/designing part of it. By the time I've figured that part out, I'm usually mentally done with the project and have trouble getting through the making of the real thing.
