Went fabric shopping yesterday for my friend. I am making her a pair of 18th century stays. They will be dark gold with dark red binding and a decoration of criss-crossed dark red ribbon in front. I am also making her a bumroll and dark red petticoat. The great thing about this is that there's no real deadline, but I still feel motivated to work on it, and I can also work on my stuff as well, and I am still gettign paid for it. Hooray! Making money from historical costumes! My mom also got me an early fabric birthday present. I saw a pink and ivory striped cotton sateen. I know the fabric isn't period, but the pattern/colour is, and I want to make it into a Robe a l'Anglaise. It was inspired by: http://www.metmuseum.org/Works_of_Art/viewOne.asp?dep=8&viewmode=0&item=C.I.66.39a,%20b
Progress on my stays since last time is as follows:
-Finished marking channels
-Begun sewing channels
What's left is:
-Finish sewing channels
-Cut cable ties
-Cut out fashion fabric
-Sew together
-Sew eyelets
-Add horizontal boning across the chest
-Sew seam allowances
-Sew binding
Gah! I better get started on these. Unfortunately, I have a ton of midterms coming up. Looking forward to Spring Break.
