Train Ride!

I went on a train ride in costume with friends over a week ago and have just now uploaded the pictures. The weather was pretty terrible that day, very windy and rainy. I had perfect, super curly bangs when I started, but they disappeared quickly because of the weather. The rain also had a rather disastrous effect on my hat and made the sticking-up loop very sad and droopy. We have a historic train that runs locally called the Prairie Dog Central. It's a steam locomotive and the car we were travelling in was built in 1901, but there are cars from different years. We had a peek into one built in 1908.
Dawn and I on one side. My sleeves are being big. :)
Shirley on the other side. She had a fake book to store stuff in that I thought was super cool.
On the way out to the destination (a little over an hour away) we were informed that there was a "blockage" on the tracks so we'd be stopping soon and that some desparados had been known to frequent the area, but not to worry because the sheriff and his deputy were on board. Here's the deputy:
However, we ended up being surrounded by dangerous bandits on horseback!

They boarded the train and robbed us! (The money "stolen" from the passengers was donated to cancer patients in need of financial assistance. The conductor informed us that the takings amounted to over $700!) One of the porters is being held at gunpoint by a bandit who looks suspiciously like the deputy... (I think the sheriff and deputy were in cahoots with the robbers. ;p)

After being relieved of our excess wealth, we finally reached our destination. There are a couple of historic buildings there, so we went into some sort of building intended for the train workers (which contained a sign with advice for young women travelling alone!) and a house built in the 1880s. The house had some antique clothing that we were shown by a lady working there because we were in costume. She was pleased that we could help her date some of the clothing (mostly c.1900).

After this rather exhausting excursion, we took the train back home. Here's the train station. It stopped raining by then, so I could get a picture of it.

I had a WONDERFUL time! I loved being on the old train in costume. It was so much fun!

Date: 2016-06-22 05:46 pm (UTC)BTW, I just discovered that there's a kind of hairspray particularly for locking out humidity. If you browse at the store, you should see some that mentions "humidity," or "weather" - that's probably it. It seems to be a different formulation from regular hairspray, which no matter how strong a hold, won't keep my hair from frizzing in humidity. But I just tried some "Weather Control" from L'Oreal and it totally works. Not like it's frozen, but it really truly tames the frizz and keeps the curl I've set from disappearing. This is the one I got, and it was not expensive even at Walmart. It just has to be re-applied after you brush or comb.

If you DO want it to freeze, use freeze spray! It does what it says on the can, so make very sure you're not going to adjust anything after using it. And it can only be washed out.

Date: 2016-06-22 06:21 pm (UTC)I didn't use any hairspray, which was a mistake. I never really know what sort of products (hair or makeup) to use for things, so thanks for the recommendation!
