Had a living history event bright and early today and managed to finish my outfit last night at 11:30 pm. Ugh. The event went well though. We had a couple schools come to a local museum where we gave educational demonstrations about Manitoba's Selkirk Settler history. I was at a station with another lady where we talked about what kids wore 200 years ago. We had two kids (boy and girl) from each group dress up in some clothes and the kids all enjoyed that.

I took some pictures of my outfit when I got home. They are in the hallway because the rest of our house is crammed full with stuff at the moment (my stuff from Ontario and stuff from my grandmother's). I like this outfit, but the waist is seriously too low, which bothers me because I think it makes it look more 1820s than c.1815. However, when wearing an apron over it, it's really not noticeable, so whatevs. The real point is that I hand-sewed an entire outfit and that now I have something of my own to wear to living history stuff!

I also took pictures of the pockets I made (which were what I was finishing last night), but I'm saving those for another post because they are my HSM entry. :)

Thanks! lol Only handsewn by necessity. I needed to get started on it, but my mom needed the sewing machine for school sewing. So I was like, screw it, I'll just sew it by hand.

Thanks! I took some close-up pics of the pockets which are made from the same print. That post should be up shortly.

Thanks Gloria! It was a really fun event. We got to check out each other's demonstrations too and I saw the firing of a musket, which was super cool. Also totally surprised someone driving by the museum! lol

Doesn't it feel good to be able to say something is hand-sewn? Congratulations. I see what you mean about the waist level, but hopefully that's not too bad to fix.

Nice job.

Thank you! I was surprised that it didn't take me forever to make, which makes hand-sewing projects in the future more likely. I don't know if I'll go back and fix the waist level on this one, but will certainly be adjusting my pattern for future Regency stuff. Looking at these pictures more closely, I am thinking that perhaps the back is pulled down some because the front looks like it's riding up. Adjusting that would probably help.

I'm agreeing with that assessment of the fit :-) I think it would be worth it to make the changes, too, just for the record.

Thanks Elizabeth! Hand sewing was actually pretty convenient, because it meant I didn't have to pull out the sewing machine and I could sew wherever in the house. Maybe more hand sewing in the future?

Thanks! It's hand-sewn because I really needed to get started on it if I wanted it done in time, but my mom was using the sewing machine for making school musical costumes. ;p Otherwise all the seams you can't see would have been machined and it would have saved me a TON of time.

LOL!!! mum makes you more historically accurate :-D

Yeah I sewed something by hand once... it took a long time... Just a pair of trousers actually, so not even a lot of work. I loves my sewing machine!

Thanks! Your book was a super helpful reference, especially for things like what kind of seams to sew.
