Busy with school
Oct. 1st, 2015 04:59 pmSchool is in full swing now. I gave my first lecture today as a teaching assistant. I have to give 3 throughout the year. I wasn't nearly as freaked out or nervous as I thought I would be. I'm used to having shaky hands when I have to present papers and such in front of people. I don't know if the sickness that I'm still recovering from has taken up all my energy so that I didn't have any left over for nervousness or if I'm just so apathetic about being here that it spread to my school stuff and I didn't have any emotions to feel while lecturing, The lecture itself went well. I said my stuff and had a Powerpoint presentation with quotations and things. There were several students who answered my questions and had things to say, which was awesome. Overall, good stuff.
Because I've been sick and doing school stuff, I have had much time or motivation to do sewing or knitting. I didn't manage to sew on Sunday like I wanted to, but then felt guilty and did a tiny bit on Monday on my 1895 petticoat. I felled the front seams, cut out a bias facing, and attached that to the front pieces. Maybe today I'll sew the back piece to the front pieces. I can also get the flounce pieces cut out without much effort. Low-effort sewing is the most I can manage right now. Unfortunately, I really wanted to get this whole 1895 ensemble done fairly quickly, like by December. Ack!

Date: 2015-10-02 06:21 pm (UTC)I'm glad your presentation went well! I find that practice helps with stage fright. I used to get so nervous when I sang in front of people that my voice would go all funky and out of control, but the more I sang in front of people the more comfortable I got with it and I was able to control any symptoms.

Date: 2015-10-02 06:39 pm (UTC)Yeah, experience is such a big thing with performances. It takes a while to get accustomed to having so many people's attention on you. I think that it was kind of low-stakes this time for me. Just a bunch of undergrads listening to me and, since it was my first lecture, nobody would expect me to be fantastic anyways. That made it easier.
