Sewing!

Yes I've actually been sewing. I have a mockup of my 18th century stays. No pictures because it looks terrible. Crazy bubblegum PINK cotton. Extremely long cable ties sticking out. Plus I had to add about three inches around the waist because it was way too short, so I stuck in a randome wide piece where the waist is. Thanks to jennylafleur and jennil and Demode, since looking at their sites helped me to understand how the stays are supposed to look. Mine were looking pretty odd: too much bust room, ending just below my natural waist, one piece on each side on the wrong side. Oy. However, now I have a half decent mockup. :) It's just a tad too big. Maybe this weekend I'll cut it apart and make a new mockup. Sounds like a plan.

Also, some revisions to my sewing plans of the year:
18th century stays (as I have so much of the stuff needed for these, I might as well get on with it.)

Regency shift (Have the fabric for this one and it can be used for 18th century as well as Regency.)
late 1870s corset (I found my silk that I made my grad dress out of. It's a deep plummy mulberry colour which I think will look good sewn and trimmed with black. Plus this way I can go easy on the cotton twill that I have.)

Elizabethan stays (I found some bright brocade in red with purple and yellow and orange flowers that I had originally bought to make a Chinese-style shirt. I think it'll look pretty neat as the stays though.)

Elizabethan shirt (I think I should have enough white cotton for this and the Regency shift. Using the fabric I would have used for the early Victorian chemise.)

18th century justacorps

18th century breeches (Still wanna be a pirate.)

I scrapped the idea of making 1840s type stuff. I was totally intrigued by the idea of a corded petticoat and all the flounced petticoats that would go over it. I definitely like the Natural Form era better, so I thought it would be a good idea to get that going first, instead of the other. Plus, I think it may involve less fabric and thus less money. Not to mention the fact that I have some thin, white striped cotton that I was originally thinking of using for a Regency gown, but now I like the idea of using it for a light summery Natural Form dress.
