A few language thingies...
Apr. 27th, 2004 07:46 pmMy English teacher always says not to use the words stuff or things. I'm pretty sure she'd really not go for "thingies". Watched some Hamlet today. Two of the best lines for sure are:
1. A palpable hit. (Most just because it was on Horatio Hornblower 2 and who doesn't love those Brits on that boat. Aww... Poor Archie is dead.)
2. How now, a rat. (That just sounds funny and when my teacher told her story of what happened when she saw it performed in theatre it's hilarious. When "Hamlet" whipped out his sword it went flying into the audience and some poor scared people had to hand him back the sword so he could stab the "arras".)
Also, got some mail from the Institute of Children's Literature saying that I passed the aptitude test and qualified to enroll. Unfortunately the course costs $779 and since I just came back from spending $850 of my own money in Europe and about $3000 of my parents' money on the trip itself and I need to buy shoes for grad and am possibly getting new fabric for my dress... Yeah, well you get the picture. Not like large sums of money I want to be shelling out at the moment. Oh well, it's not like I can't take the test again and qualify again some other time when I have the money.
I really need to get a job. Unfortunately I don't really like customers so that kind of makes things difficult. I'd really like to get a job at either the florist near my house or the nearest Chapters. And now that I'm 18 I probably have a better chance at getting a job. It'd be really cool to get a job at Fabricland. I was told by one of the people who works at a fabric store that I should apply there and that they were hiring, but that store is 1/2 an hour away at least and here I am without a car or a licence. That's something else I need to do: get my licence. However, since I don't have one I'm always exempt from having to drive other people around and since none of my friends drink and drive it usually works so that if you don't drive you're drinking... lol
Well, my mom needs the computer. The only other thing I was going to say was that I should really work on my Bosnian sometime soon. My friend and I plan to go to Europe in a few years and she's from Bosnia. Mmmm... Bosnian food is so good.
