Corset and life

I applied the other 2 exterior casings. I may end up ripping out a couple of the seams and redoing them because they look a bit wonky, but mostly looks good. I figure that if I can get one thing done a day, the corset will be done this week. So today, redo those 2 seams and put in the grommets. After that only interior boning casings (Wednesday) and binding (Thursday), not counting flossing. The interior casings will be so much easier because I won't be dealing with stupidly skinny pieces that have less than 5mm seam allowances. The tricky part will be sewing them from the outside and not being able to see the casings, but I think that it'll be ok with lots of drawn on lines and pinning.

In other news, it's grad school time and I've finally heard back from all the ones I applied to. I got a really good offer from the school that I wanted to go do so that's all good. In the fall I will be attending Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. One of the really cool things about this is that it's right between Toronto and Montreal AND Their Garment Districts! So if any of my friends-list is planning to be around that area in the next four years, give me a shout! :)

Also, looks like I'll be taking a trip to Chicago and Indianapolis later this spring. The boyfriend has cousins in Indy and has always wanted to go to Chicago and they're only a 3 hr drive from each other. So a week-long trip is in the books. I'm planning on checking out Vogue Fabrics and a couple of other places in Chicago. Doesn't look like Indy is much of a sewing/fabric place; anyone know differently?

That's all that's going on with me right now.

Yay, good for you! I've only been to Montreal once, but it was such a beautiful, amazing city. So nice you'll be close by.

Argh, I wish I could meet up with you. We're flying in and renting a car while down there. That doesn't mean that we won't make it to the Twin Cities some time this year though. People here are always wanting to go to the Mall. If all else fails, there's always CoCo right?

I can tell you for sure that Indy isn't much of a fabric place. I lived there for 29 years and there was only JoAnn's and Hancock Fabrics to choose from. The last time I visited I noticed there's a new boutique on the north side of town called The French Seam. http://www.thefrenchseam.com/ I meant to check it out but I ran out of time. If you decide to stop in let me know what you think of it. Have fun on your trip and congratulation on grad school!

So many congratulations on grad school! I'm still waiting to hear back from one of the schools I applied to before I make a decision. I'm so happy for you! Montreal is a beautiful city (I didn't realize it had a garment district!) and you will have tons of fun there, I can tell. As for Indy, I say just drive 2 hours and come see me in Cincinnati! ;)

Waiting to hear back from schools is such a pain. It was an anxious past couple of weeks for me. I hope your school gets back to you with good tidings, but it sounds like you also have some great back-up plans in the works too. Montreal is Canada's fashion capital and it appears to have a street of fabric and clothing stores. I've never been, so it's a place I definitely want to visit while I'm nearby.

Getting to meet you would be so cool! That's what CoCo is for, I guess. :)

Books and Brews sounds awesome. I will have to look into that. My boyfriend loves beer and I love books. Right up our alley!
