Trip Recap: Paris

I took this trip with my boyfriend, just so you know who "we" refers to. So we headed to Paris through Montreal (very French) and got there in the morning. We met up with one of his friends who happened to be spending two weeks there and spent the day with him, checking out the Louvre (but only the outside because we lazed away too much of the day to actually go in) and the Tuileries Gardens. Quiche was also had, which was one of the things that the boyfriend had on his list of things to do in Paris. Mine was spinach and chevre. So good!

We walked all the way to the Eiffel Tower, going over the Seine and stopping for dinner at some point. We thought it would be a much shorter walk than it actually was because we could see the Tower from the Gardens. That turned out to be an illusion. The Eiffel Tower is just really big and we were actually pretty far away. It was quite the walk, but we got to see it all lit up and we got there at a good time to see it do its thing (ie. blinking lights that make it look all sparkly).

The next day we met up with the friend again and two more of my boyfriend's friends who also happened to be in Paris at the same time. (It was kind of silly how that managed to work out.) We went to the Arc de Triomphe and, more importantly, Laduree on the Champs Elysees. Macarons were eaten. Absolutely divine! I'm really sad that I didn't have more...

We then headed to lunch at a place called Flams where they serve a traditional Alsatian dish called flammekeuche. It's like a thin crust pizza with creme fraiche, bacon, onions, and potatoes. So tasty. Then it was on to the Galeries Lafayette where everything was much too high-end and expensive to buy. But the inner court part of the building was amazing.

Also amazing was the food hall in the department store. I got some fresh raspberries. They were delicious. I wish that we had produce like this where I live.

We then metro-ed our way down to Notre Dame Cathedral where we walked around the Cathedral and hung out in the little park behind it. There were some great views of the Cathedral from the bridge over the river.

After that we went to a bookstore called Shakespeare and Company where they sell books in English and met another Canadian working and living there. Yeah, people/writers can live in the bookstore. Crazy! I wish I had gotten a picture of the inside because it is all twisty-turny and crowded with stairs and shelves and ladders and such everywhere.

We spent most of the evening in the Latin Quarter where the other friends were renting a place. It was Vietnamese food for dinner and then we headed back up to the north part of Paris to spend some time at the other friend's apartment with a tasty snack of prosciutto, smoked salmon, artichokes, sundried tomatoes, cheese, and strawberries. I just could not get enough of that Parisian food! Our hotel was located conveniently close to him.
That was Paris. The next day we took the Chunnel to London.
