Which is the day of my last (and most ridiculously difficult) exam, plus the due date for my (also ridiculous, but mostly due to length, not difficulty) assignment. Just showing that I'm still alive. I've been doing a ridiculous amount of studying. (Yes, ridiculous is going to be the word of the day.) It makes me hurt. Plus the fact that our furnace keeps breaking down, and it's pretty darn cold here, is also ridiculous. I mean, I live in Canada in the middle of the Prairies. We are a place that really, REALLY needs heat in winter, even more than air conditioning in the summer. (And that's saying something, because I can't stand the heat and humidity and get heatstroke very easily.) But I think the furnace is finally, completely fixed and we won't need more furnace-people coming to fix it. I hope. *fingers crossed*

Luckily, I have out 12 books from the library. So far I have managed to read 3 out of 4 short story compilations. I figured it was a good idea to start with these so that I wouldn't get all into the book and not be able to study. This way, I read a story (or two) during study breaks. Those are all by L. M. Montgomery and I got one of her novels. Also got 4 historical fiction novels: Innocent Traitor (Allison Weir, about Lady Jane Grey), Meridon (Philippa Gregory, even though both Wideacre and the Favoured Child both managed to creep me out, I just HAD to finish the trilogy), The Hidden Diary of Marie Antoinette and The Last Wife of Henry VIII (both by Carrolly Erickson who I haven't read before). I am very excited to read these.

As for my previous post, ranting further on book vandalism, I also got Fashion in the French Revolution and Gallery of Fashion (Aileen Rebeiro) and Patterns of Fashion Vol. 2 (Janet Arnold, hurray!). Now I was skimming through FitFR and couldn't help but notice that AGAIN pages were missing. Now I have my suspicions that it's all the same person. A person who likes to take big pictures out of very nice costume books, as all the pages missing were big, full-page pictures. And I am very angry at them. When next I am at the library I shall complain. And it's not just the pages are missing out of these books, but the library KNOWS! Knows and doesn't replace the books. Grrr... At least my nemesis hasn't gotten a hold of Gallery of Fashion. It's a very pretty book with lovely pics of portraits with a little description, and a few pics of extant garments similar to those in the portraits. I recommend checking it out of your local library.

In other news, my mom decided that for Christmas I should just get what I want and she'll pay me back. While this is not very Christmassy, it is very convenient. So I ordered some books from Chapters. Namely, 18th Century Embroidery Techniques (Gail Marsh). I am SO excited for this. I want to learn to embroider! With silk! And make pretty, pretty things. :) I made a deal with myself that if I can finish my stays during the holidays then I get to order embroidery threads for my birthday. (Which is in February, so that gives me time to thoroughly read through the book and really learn what's going on.)

Okay, MUST go study. Bah, humbug!

Best of luck with your studying!

That really sucks that someone was mean enough to tear out all those pages. It's just sad.
