Finally finished sewing something!

I made up Wearing History's Elsie blouse. And it's done! (As opposed to started and nearly finished and left languishing in costume purgatory.) It's my first finished project in two years. How sad is that? But I'm not sad at all right now. I'm really happy that I finished this and that it turned out. No mock-up. I was between sizes, so I went with the smaller size. I altered the lapel a bit so that it was pointed instead of rounded, I reduced the front overlap a little, I took out some volume from the sleeve cap, and I omitted  the waist stay. Other than those minor changes (because I can never just leave things as they are), I used the pattern as is from the envelope.

I did a bit of a photo shoot and actually ended up getting some decent photos. (Usually my pictures are terrible.) Somehow ended up looking more 1940s than 1910s, but I don't mind. I was having difficulties with my hair and this is what ended up working.


I'm so proud of how well my handsewn buttonholes turned out. I always like sewing those.


Someone tried to join in the photoshoot, but wasn't great at posing for the camera. (Pup is 6 months old and a big girl.)

It looks good! The fabric is really pretty, and I'm envious of your hand-bound buttonholes. That is not one of my strengths, haha.

Thanks! I've had the fabric for years (at least 5, but probably more), so it was nice to finally use it. I always want to trade labour with people, like I'll sew your buttonholes if you cut out my fabric.

Thank you! I took a ton of pics at different angles and even edited some photos. The extra effort (that I usually neglect) paid off!

lol She's really big. About 80lbs now. Whew!

Do you also find the blouse pulls really far to the back? I wasn't sure if my version was supposed to do that or not.

Thank you! I don't find that, but because I omitted the waist stay, that might have remedied that. It sits correctly at my shoulders, although I was worried about it because it didn't really until I got the sleeves in. And I almost put those in with the top of the sleeve cap in the wrong place (matched up with the seam, rather than the marking where it's supposed to be).

That blouse looks great! Seems like a very good pattern, and WOW your buttonholes are fantastic. I do all mine by hand and they are nothing like so even.

Thank you! It's a great pattern and the Wearing History video tutorials were really helpful too, since there were a couple of new things I'd never done before. Buttonholes are my specialty! I think I need to thank my mom for my good motor skills; she had me handsewing at a very young age.
