Alright, here goes. To start with is the fabric for my 18th century stays. It's a green jaquard. Next is the fabric that I am using for my friend's stays. Some sort of gold upholstry fabric. I am very aware that neither of them is a very period choice. However, this is my first pair of stays and I didn't want to go all out, but I still wanted them to look pretty. And my friend didn't care too much about accuracy. She just wanted something that would look nice. Hers are going to be trimmed with red ribbon on the seams and false lacing in the front.

When my stays are finally completed, as well as all the other underpinnings, which is really just a shift and bumroll, I want to make a somewhat practice outfit first. So I am going to make a jacket and petticoat ensemble. I have a red brocade for the jacket. (Once again not period, but I thought it sort of resembled some of the older brocades because it has a sort of garish colour scheme and pattern. So it's story is going to be that it was a 1750s-ish? jacket before that is being made over 1780s style.) The petticoat will be a dark brown silk/linen blend that my mom bought me for Christmas. It has a very nice, smooth feel. The picture doesn't look brown at all, which I thought was rather odd. The fabric is quite definitely dark, chocolate brown. Oh well.

After that I would like to make a bodice and skirt. This is to wear under an overgown. I see a lot of pictures that have underdresses and overgowns where you can't see a front closure. This led me to believe that there must be a back closure. (I am very possibly wrong.) So I figured I'd make a back-lacing bodice with a petticoat. I have a very nice, sheerish, white striped cotton. I like that the stripe is striped. I also saw portrait where the sitter is wearing a white, striped gown with a sort of yellow shawl tied over it. And I would like to make my overgown yellow. So here's that pic. It's the farthest left in the very last row, or second section of pics.

Lastly, also striped, is my pink and ivory cotton sateen. My mom bought it for me for my birthday. I drew out a picture of what I want the finished product to look like. It's a Robe a l'Anglaise, with a polonaise, and a zone-front bodice. I think I'll trim it with pink taffeta or satin. (Sorry for the poor picture quality, but I took a picture of my picture with the digital camera, as we do not have a scanner.) It was inspired by a dress at the Met as well as another one which is no longer online and that I do not have the technical skills to put into my journal.

So there it all is. Sorry I also don't have the technical skills to put pictures behind the cuts. All I could manage was links. Now it's time to get ready to celebrate St. Paddy's Day!
