Chugging along
Apr. 19th, 2016 03:18 pmI got off to a late start yesterday so not as productive as I could have been. I did make and attach a flounce to my poplin petticoat. Took forever! I tried a new technique of making a tuck in the petticoat and using that to sandwich in the gathered edge of the flounce. It gives a nice finish and is easier than putting in a facing. My poplin petticoat now has a LOT of body at the hem. :)
I also managed to get most of the shirtwaist cut out yesterday (minus cuffs and collar). The body is now together, with some tucks and felled seams. The CF/button band looks cool. I used a technique from Kristina Harris' Authentic Victorian Dressmaking Techniques to do that. It makes a weird little tuck for the raw edge that has it looking like a box pleat from the front. I need to gather and set in the sleeves and then do all the finishing thingies: gathered back with waist tie, hem, cuffs, collar, buttons, and buttonholes.
Pictures of all the things eventually!
