I went with some friends and the boyfriend to Minneapolis to take in a hockey game and a football game as well as do some shopping. Unfortunately, I returned with a bad cold. Boo! But I also got a chance to visit Treadle Yard Goods in St. Paul where [livejournal.com profile] ashamanja_babu works. Although circumstances beyond our control prevented us from meeting, I still got to have a wonderful time seeing all the gorgeous fabrics in the store. It's not a very big store, but all of the fabrics are really high quality. There are a number of Japanese cottons, quilting cottons by well-known designers, and lovely staples like wools and silks in solid colours.

I was good and restrained myself from spending a fortune there. I picked up some things that I am incredibly happy with: an Art Gallery Fabrics voile, 2 silk-cotton blends, and some delicate cotton lace. The colours in the picture are just a tad bit too bright and saturated, particularly in 2 right fabrics, but overall pretty close.

The printed voile is for a summer dress using Simplicity 1803 View A. About a month ago I kept hearing about Cotton and Steele, a company of fabric designers. Then, about two weeks after that, the internet was all about Art Gallery Fabrics. I never understood all this hype. But I saw this fabric in the store and when I felt it, I had to have it. It's so silky smooth; even though it's 100% cotton, it feels like a silk blend. And the pattern! So pretty! It wasn't until I got home that I realized it was by the much-talked-about Art Gallery Fabrics. I totally understand all the talk now. It's gorgeous!

The other two fabrics are for corsets. The fabric is a light-medium weight silk-cotton, with a lovely satiny sheen. (Much nicer weight than my other green silk-cotton blend that I got a few weeks ago, which is more of a voile.) I picked up half yard of each. I'm not sure which I want to use for my 1880s corset. Originally I wanted to find a pink, but wasn't keen on the baby pink that was available and totally loved these two. Any thoughts?

The lace is a very fine 3/8" wide cotton cluny lace. I don't have a specific use for it, but it will come in handy for undergarments and dress trimming. I probably should have bought more than the 5 yards I got. At my local fabric stores we have the same lace, but it's a much heavier and wider lace. This one is perfect for edges that curve.

Super happy with all my fabric purchases! If you're ever in Minnesota, definitely stop by Treadle Yard Goods. Even my non-sewing friends were interested in the pretty things there.
