Someone my mom knows knows someone whose mom was moving and getting rid of yarn, for free. So my mom and I went down there today and got a HUGE stash of yarns and such. I got a ton of vintage yarn. This is to show the different colours I got. I actually have many, many skeins of each. And I did some investigating and I think most of them date anywhere from 1941-1961. They have a British Standard marking for 1941, and the Internets tell me that Patons and Baldwins were bought by J.P. Coats in 1961. Also, a number of them are from China, brought to Canada by the lady when she moved here. If my own grandparents are anything to judge by, that would have been in the late 40s-early 50s. The big skein of green is Listers Lavenda 3 ply. I couldn't find any Listers Lavenda stuff dating past the 1950s. The top one that looks sort of magenta/plum, but is actually a deep wine colour, is much later. Mostly fingering weight yarns, which were commonly used in vintage knitting. I can use these vintage yarns to knit up vintage knitting patterns. So cool!

I also got a whole set of knitting needles. My own collection of needles was pretty sparse.

And this lovely wool coating was also there. Maybe a new coat for the winter?

Pretty sweet haul, in my opinion! ;)
