Halloween Weekend
Oct. 31st, 2010 07:37 pmFriday I finished my costume in the afternoon. There wasn't much left. Just sewing a channel for an elastic for the waistband. The whole costume turned out pretty well. I got lots of compliments. People were so impressed that I made a corset. (Myself included) :) The party I went to at my friend's was great fun. Lots of dancing and crazy lights and irritating fake cobwebs that got stuck on everyone. And almost all our friends were there. The host and his friend both dressed up as Edwards (Twilight) and were hilariously pale and sparkly. All in all a good time.
Saturday was not so good. I didn't make it home until six in the morning from the previous night, and had to wake up before ten... I had to go with a friend to get a baby shower gift. Then we headed to the baby shower. (The new mom is one of my closest friend's sister. I've known them for about twenty years.) I finally got back home around five-thirty and thought I could get a nap in before heading out again. But unfortunately it was not to be. Headed back out to my friends' house to get ready for a Halloween social. (Social: something specific to Manitoba, Canada. It's usually a fundraiser held at a community centre or bar. Tickets are almost always $10, and drinks usually $2.50. There is drinking, dancing, and prizes/silent auction. And certain songs are almost always played: Boot, Scoot, 'n' Boogie, Living on a Prayer, Midnight Train. It is a wonderful tradition.) The social was fun. There were some awesome costumes. I saw someone dressed as the Doppler Effect a la Big Bang Theory! Unfortunately there was a little bit of drama. We got picked up by a wonderful person, who is one of my bestest friends, so that we wouldn't have to wait an hour and a half for a taxi, even though he had already gone to bed. Now here's the very bad part.
On the way home (which isn't very far, only about 15 min.), we saw a really terrible car accident. It must have just happened before we reached that intersection, because it wasn't blocked off or anything and only one paramedic vehicle was there at the time. One person died, probably instantly based on how the car looked, and two are in critical condition. Someone in another car, who just missed getting hit, told us that it was due to drunk driving. It's so sad, and so stupid. The local newspaper website says that a 17-year-old girl, who was alone in her car, is facing charges. She hit another car with five people in it. There was glass everywhere. And we saw a girl who was laid down on median by the curb. I've never seen anything like it. We got through the intersection just as a fire truck was coming up. I don't know what else to say. It was just awful.
Today, I was just catchin up on sleep and getting homework done. So, that was my weekend.
