Reading my f-list and after reading
jennil 's post about talking with her Granny and the stories she's getting to hear reminded me of my grandparents. Their 60th wedding anniversary was last year and my grandfather was getting physio treatment after coming out of the hospital. And they told us a fantastic story that we had never heard before and that I like to share. So here goes:
My grandparents were married in China. My grandmother came from a wealthy family and my grandfather was from a farming family, but his family had family members in Canada, which meant more opportunity, so they got married, July 1, 1948. Well, not too long after that my grandfather packed up and came to Canada. He would be staying with family and working up enough money to get my grandmother over too. And many days passed. However, these days passed without my grandmother hearing anything from him. For a Very Long Time. Eventually she was fed up and decided that she would wait just one more year before considering her marriage over... And on that very day, one year later, was when she finally got word from her husband.
Crazy isn't it? I was thrilled to learn about this piece of family history. And, in case you were curious, they both immigrated to Canada, started a family and a family business, and have been living here for the past fifty-some years. Personally, I later thought, "I wonder what he was doing all that time. He couldn't pick up a phone?!"
