As of late
Aug. 15th, 2008 01:56 pmI have been rather busy lately. I am currently making my friend a summer dress. What have I learned from this experience (and the very few others similar)? That I do not like sewing for other people.
Now it's not that I mind the work or anything, but sewing for people who don't know sewing gets annoying. They don't know what they want, they don't understand about the fitting process, they're too scared of getting poked with pins, and, most significantly, they have difficulty visualizing. So when we start planning out something for them they have no idea what the end product is going to look like. This leads to me not knowing if they like the direction things are going in. And then they might not like the end product which makes everyone unhappy.
But I've already committed and I think it's going alright. Of course it's difficult to tell. And since discovering how much I dislike making things for other people I've told my friends that I don't want to make things for them anymore. But that just leads to people complaining, as per "well you made her something but you're not going to make me something just because you learned after making something for her". Grr...
Enough of the ranting though. Oh nope, one more thing, I still haven't finished sewing anything for myself this year, but I guess that's kind of my own fault. On the plus side, my school schedule leaves my Tuesdays and Thursdays free, so that means sewing for me time. Maybe I'll even get something done. ;p
