New Machine

My mom took the old machine to her sewing machine guy to see what could be done about it. Apparently it would have cost about $200 to repair and there were no guarantees he could find the right part because the machine is over 30 years old. So my mom decided it was time for a new machine. She got a Janome 4030 QDC. She says that she likes the ones that they have at her school. It looks alright, but really, who can tell until you try it? Not set up yet, but I guess we'll see how it goes.

Congrats! Janome is a really great brand and makes great machines. You will love it!

Thanks! Should be interesting to get to know a new machine.

I have a Janome that works great! I bet you can adjust to the new machine quickly.

Good to know! It looks pretty straightforward and user-friendly.

I was resisting buying a new machine...cash out lay...old Singers don't die...new Singers suck...blah blah blah. But my old one was supposed to be portable but it weighed a ton...I had to get the men in my house to move it for me. My old one also only went forwards and back. My new Brother practically sews it for me! And then embroiders my name on it! I kept the old one because it was my moms and because you can't kill it so if ever my new one is in the shop, I will still be able to sew....forwards and back.....

Your new Brother sounds wonderful! I hope our new one is as nice. I somewhat recently acquired an old Singer (c. 1930s treadle) from my grandmother. Definitely not portable. Haven't used it yet because it needs a new belt and a clean, but I love knowing that it will still run come rain or shine.

Just tried it out on a scrap of fabric today. (I had to head out before I could get to my actual sewing. :p) It's very easy to figure out and very smooth while sewing. Pretty darn pleased so far!
