Fabric Advice (Help me spend money ;p)

Has anybody used the combed cotton lawn from Dharma Trading? Or the cotton lawn from Silk Connection? I'm looking to make some whitework embroidered engageantes and want something that is very sheer and light. A lot of things I've read say "muslin sleeve ruffles" and talk about using lawn. I am going to be working this weekend and will have a little extra cash to spare, so I'm looking for help in spending it. :) (After all, I should only need a yard.) Looking for something like this. Any advice? Any other fabric suggestions for this? (Preferably nothing too pricey, and hopefully shipping doesn't cost an arm and a leg either.) Thanks!

Oh also, finished binding the top of the green stays. Woot!

Their lawn is beautiful stuff! I've made several chemises and other assorted things from it, and I cant stress how soft and lovely it is. That being said, it might not be as sheer as you want (although it is very sheer). I would recommend buying a yard of it and a yard of Dharma's voile, which is also lovely, and experimenting. The voile is sheerer, but the lawn might be better for embroidery. Definitely needs testing. Hope this helps!

Hmm... Well, considering the amount I'd be paying for shipping, it makes sense to buy more than just one thing. And sheer white cottons can always be used for other things if they don't work out. :) Thanks for the advice!

I love it--my favorite chemise is of it.

Definitely try embroidering on it before committing to it. I know I've had voiles that didn't take to embroidery well...

Thanks for the advice! :) I think I will get a trial yard.

Also meant to mention that I used the lawn for my Jane Eyre chemise and drawers, and embroidered them. It worked really well, but again, not sure if it will be sheer enough. A matter of taste really.

Using cotton for engageantes is period also. Even for mens shirt sleave ruffles, it was used. So finding as fine a cotton you can would be easyer than linnen.
Just 2 cents more...........

I think I knew that and that's where I heard about it from. :)

Thanks! I'm definitely searching around for a really nice sheer cotton.
