Finished?

I finally finished binding my corset. I don't know if I'll end up flossing it. At this point, I'm just tired of working on it and want to move on to something else. Flossing would probably be good, but I'm not sure that it's necessary. I'll have to try wearing the corset more and seeing if the bones have any inclination to twist or move around. If not, then I'm calling it done and not working on flossing. If it needs flossing... well, we'll see when I get around to it.

Next project is hoops/cage crinoline! The fabric (pillow ticking) is in the wash. I'll cut out the pieces tomorrow and probably also get them assembled.

It's stitching done at the ends of the bones of corsets. It's both decorative and functional. It really is pretty and you can see some really gorgeous examples from the 19th century. But it also prevents the ends of the bones from rubbing through your corset, keeps them at the right length within your corset, and prevents them from twisting in their channels.

oh wow that is so pretty!

So it's kind of like stopping the underwire in a bra from breaking through and poking out, but it's much prettier.

Right! Although flossing is often a much simpler pattern than the examples I showed you. I picked extra pretty ones to show.

I see. I liked the pretty! Well I figure if you're gonna do it, may as well do it prettily :-D

Although I can think of many women who would be like 'just utilitarian is all I want thankyou!'

A lot of the really fancy ones were done on machine by corset manufacturing companies. I was definitely not in the mood to do pretty ones because I was sick with a cold when I was doing it. But it got done!

Oh right yeah that makes sense.

No I wouldn't have been doing pretty ones either if I was sick with a cold!
