Masterpiece Theatre: Indian Summers and Home Fires

I'm really enjoying Masterpiece's current line-up. Indian Summers is set in the early 1930s in colonial India. The costumes are really pretty although not perfectly accurate (some characters are more late 1930s). There's also a variety of day and evening wear. (Bonus: Frock Flicks is doing recaps of the costumes every week!) And the story has intrigue, drama, and sex. What more could you ask for? It's really fun and entertaining. Plus there is a nice mix of caucasian and Indian people in the cast of main characters who get equal screen time, which is not something you see very often in TV or on the big screen.

In terms of costumes, though, I really think that Home Fires is over-the-top awesome. It's a heart-warming sort of series about the neighbourhood women pulling together set during the opening of WW2. The hair is gorgeous and I am completely in love with the knitwear! Nothing really fancy, since these are mostly working class people, but I think it looks perfect.

Also, there are handsome men in uniforms. ;)

Go! Watch!

Sorry. I totally didn't think about it and then it occurred to me after reading one of your posts. I will definitely let you know in the future if I come across something similar that doesn't have trigger stuff in it!

Yeah, it's one of the things that can trigger me badly, stuff on tv like that.

Definitely let me know if you come across similar stuff. Did Indian Summer have any yukky bits? that looked so interesting.

I don't think there is in Indian Summers so far, but the series is only about halfway through. There is violence, but it's more like police brutality and rebellion shootings and fistfights. I'm not sure how you feel about that sort of violence. It does get rather graphic at times.
