Here it is, the stuff I sewed in 2011. I didn't do any knitting like I wanted to, but I was far more productive than usual. I got done, on average, just over one project a month, which was my original goal for the year. I think I can up my productivity for next year a little bit. I have some new strategies, like to just force myself to get started, because once I've started I have no trouble continuing. So...

Grape dress- which I want to re-fit in the waist section before I wear it

Whew! That was a lot. It seems like this was a pretty productive year for everyone on my Friends list. See you all in 2012! Happy New Year! And best of luck with all your future sewing projects!

Waistband is on, and the circle skirt is now hanging on the dress dummy, stretching out the bias. And pictures!

Look! It's so flare-y! (The white peaking out at the bottom is the lining already stretching out more than the fashion fabric.)

All in all I'm quite happy with this. And all that's left to do is the hem.

The circle skirt has been cut out, seamed, and zipper inserted. I was going to let it hang now, but I feel like the cut out waist isn't really stable enough for that, so I'm going to do the waistband next. It's half cut out. I want to cut out a layer of something stiff to reinforce it. Then it's hanging and hemming time. I just finished re-watching Roman Holiday today, and now I want a cute blouse and a short haircut to go with my new skirt, but I don't think it's in the cards at the moment. ;p

Shoes!

I just bought this pair of shoes yesterday. I needed a casual flat that I could wear out and that went with a lot of different things. And these have a cute vintage vibe. I really wanted to buy these, but they just wouldn't fit. Still, I'm really happy about the ones I did get.

In sewing news, the circle skirt is half cut out. The fabric is not quite shadow proof, so a lining is needed. I have some plain white cotton that will do. I wanted to sew them as one layer, but I'm afraid that when I hang the skirt to let the bias stretch the two fabrics might stretch different amounts. Any opinions on that?

Believe it or not, but we have snow. Snow in May is just a travesty. And it was so nice out yesterday, and tomorrow is supposed to be really nice. Here's a picture from today, the view from our front window:

I guess a snow day means a sew day for me. There was a fabric sale recently and I picked up a cotton poplin print to make a circle skirt. It's ivory dahlias or 'mums outlined in coral. I looked through my very small, random button collection and happened to find the perfect button for the waistband. It's just plain and smooth, but it matches the ivory tone exactly. I also picked up some zippers and lace at a good price.
